Thinking Like A Historian
Cause and Effect:
The Cause of the California Gold Rush of 1849 was that James Marshall found gold in the river and everyone wants to strike it rich, so people migrated from all around the world to try there luck in mining for gold. The effect is that around 300,000 people moved to California in search of Gold. Through Their Eyes:
If you look though the Eyes of someone who is moving to California in search of gold, you may see a man who lives somewhere where he does not like it, and he may use all of his money to buy a wagon to travel west. It is hard and when he reaches California, he realizes it will take a lot of hard work and determination to get what he came there for. He may work long days and be sick or hungry. It is very hard to live there and he found that out the hard way. It would be very hard to live and work in the time of the Gold Rush. |
